Throwback Thursday

So, I've decided to start a weekly marathon of Dramas, with a catch - the dramas must be old. And by old, I mean anything airing before 2010. I came up with this after going through the back-log of posts that I haven't read from some of my favorite drama-bloggers out there. Stephanie-noona (at Crazy for Kdrama) posted back in May about being excited to watch T.O.P's new film Commitment. One of the comment-ers asked if Stephanie-noona could recommend any T.O.P dramas and she mentioned I Am Sam.

I think I've finally found the Post format I like...

What my desk has been looking like recently...

So, looks like I've finally found a review layout I like. If you've been over to Amanda's blog Outside Seoul lately and read her post on marathoning White Christmas - that's the layout. A post dissecting episodes without being recaps because I'm horrible at those. Kind of odd for a supposed-to-be review blog, yes, but I have 4 movie reviews and 2 drama reviews sitting in my drafts folder never to be written.

Random Episode Thoughts

I Am Sam, Ep 2: This is something I try and ignore in most dramas, as it happens in every single one of them, but why must the makeup on the young girl actors be lighter than their skintone? If you're going to wear lighter toned makeup, you put it all the way to your chest, don't you? Not just on your face? Shouldn't the Coordi-noona's know that? Ergh, it just bothers me and really takes me out of the drama, too.
I Am Sam, Ep 2: Lee Min Ho was in this drama?! Whaaa? According to Drama Wiki, Lee Min Ho plays Heo Mo Se. Well, I certainly didn't watch this drama for him...

I Am Sam, Ep 1: I wasn't sure if T.O.P was a good actor or not before seeing this show, and I'm still not sure if he is, but I've never been more excited to finally be introduced to a character before in my life. Chae Moo Shin, I hope you give us everything I'm expecting and more. XD

I Am Sam, Ep 1: I walked into this drama believing it was going to be more on the side of typical K-drama dramatics with the teacher eventually banding together with the students and eventually overcoming whatever obstacle was in their way (which I'm sure they still do). I'm barely 5 minutes into this drama, and already we have a guy literally being thrown into a wall courtesy of J-dorama style slapstick. This is going to be a long 16 episodes. EDIT: The J-dorama style slapstick comedy only occurs with the Gangster Father character, as his role is looking to be solely for comic relief and a bit of tension among the rest of the characters.

I Am Sam, Ep 1: Maybe I've been out of the game for too long, but Yi San's reaction to the students throwing stuff and then leaving was poorly acted to me. Saying his lines though? Completely believable. I've never seen Yang Dong Geun in anything before (he'll be in The Three Muskateers as one of the Muskateers, Heo Seung Po, in August) but this back-and-forth with his acting bothers me. The student's performances as well. Is this because I'm trying to become an actor? I over analyze people's performances? If this is how it's going to be, I may not last this drama...EDIT: Whoever that first guy was, he wasn't Yang Dong Geun. YDG is a great actor. It helps that I've never seen him before this show.
